Artist Statement

My practice moves across painting, drawing, printmaking, and mixed media, with each material chosen for its conceptual rather than aesthetic qualities. While I work with a wide range of media, I often turn to oil painting to address structures of power and inequality, using the language of a traditionally canonical medium to examine contemporary forms of control, intimacy, and desire. I investigate the unstable boundaries between the private and the public, questioning where intimacy ends and observation begins. Recurring themes in my work include sexuality, hypersexuality, voyeurism, the male gaze, surveillance, and the ways in which bodies become sites of projection and control. Rather than presenting fixed narratives, I construct situations in which the viewer becomes implicated in the act of looking, occupying an ambiguous position between witness, participant, and intruder.

Ukraine for Berlin – Charity Exhibition & Art Auction (2025) In 2025, I participated in the charity exhibition and art auction Ukraine for Berlin: Resilience & Reconstruction, organized by Mediterranea Berlin to support humanitarian initiatives for Ukraine. At the time, I worked under the artistic pseudonym PMzdato; today, I present my practice under my legal name, Margarita Pochepetska. For this project, I exhibited and sold two oil paintings on canvas. The proceeds from both works were donated entirely to the charitable mission of the event, supporting relief and reconstruction efforts in Ukraine. Through this collaboration, I contributed my artistic practice to a collective initiative that united artists, musicians, filmmakers, and cultural workers in raising funds and strengthening solidarity through contemporary art.
